Then mid-afternoon on Friday Jenna was acting different. she was very needed and didn't want to crawl. This concerned Daniel and I. So we watched her and noticed she was favoring her left arm. So we called the pediatrician on call line and they recommend we observe it for the rest of the night and bring her in in the morning. So we did just that.
Saturday morning, Jenna's 10 month birthday went as follows:
1. Pediatrician 9:15am - Dr agreed with the favoring and wrote a prescription to get and x-rays
2. St. Luke's Medical Imagaing for X-Rays 11:00am - after 6 x-rays they found a small fracture in the radius bone. It did not brake all the way threw so that was the good news out of that part.
3. The ER 12:15 ish pm- the doctor on call that day was very impressed by Jenna. She was in such a good mood. Laughing, talking, playing with her toys and eating a cookie all would have convinced anyone that this little tough girl never broke anything! After looking at the X-rays and talking to the to the on call orthopedic they gave us two options. We could splint it, sling it and wait for it to heal or not do anything and carry her around for about a week. They explained to us that the fracture was so subtle that we could go with either and be just fine. They left it up to us. We talked it over and figured we'd try out not putting a splint on, considering how busy, wild and determined Jenna is we might have a few hectic days. We could always go back if we felt a need. So we left the ER with our sad, tired, hungry broken little girl! Mommy and daddy were tired too.
4. Home 2:30pm - naps for everyone!!
A few days passed and carrying her around was a little overwhelming and hard. After all we adults still have lives and chores. So we called Dr. Smith (also Jenna's Uncle). He explained that he has seen this same brake a few times on a younger infants before. He was able to make a brace for the bottom of the arm and keep it open on the top. This way we could take it on and off letting her crawl better. Also be able to go about her normal life with out worrying about a new fall braking it worse. Ahhhhh a sigh of relief :). No sling, no splint, no tired mommy and daddy, and a happy back to life baby. That's what we like to hear. so I took her into Uncle Dr. Smiths clinic and we got a brace molded to her arm out of cast material and a fun pink bandaging!
Right after she got it on.

That is so sad, I am glad it wasnt worse. I bet it sure is nice and handy to have a doctor in the family. And i guess if you have to have a brace it should be pink, cute!
I am glad that she is okay. it is scary for sure. not fun. love the pink though.
oh, poor Jenna! How sad! Lucky for her though that she has two parents who love her so much and do whatever needs to be done to take care of her.
Oh dear! That is horrible, I'm glad she's okay..
